Our 'Tightly Knit' group that began in T1 has been a most enjoyable opportunity for relationships to be shared between the young students and parents of St Vincent's School and the young at heart parishioners of St Vincent's Cardinal Freeman Village in Ashfield.
The new knitting skill that the children have mastered very well led to the production of four beautiful blankets! We had a number of mums who were learning to knit with the children and some who could already knit helping every week! How awesome is that?
An enormous thank you must be mentioned to the mums, grans, aunts, school and Parish staff and even some of my relations in Ireland and friends in London who knitted some of the squares!
The beautiful blankets were presented to the Wrap With Love group at the ABC Studios on Auguest 3rd. A group of children plus Mrs Havryliv and myself and two wonderful parents travelled to the city by train. We were overwhelmed by the number of people there who were knitting squares, sewing squares and just listening to the broadcast.
A sheep had been sheared and the wool from the sheep was then passed through three different spinning wheels, eventually producing a ball of wool that was being knitted, as we watched, into a square for one of the blankets! Amazing!
Enjoy the slideshow of the many days we spent knitting as a group over the past three terms. The knitting group is continuing and we are are going to continue with the squares but now we will make finger-less gloves, mini teddy bears and woolen neo-natal hats for the babies at Westmead Childrens Hospital.
The groups runs on Thursday from 11am to 12pm. You might like to come along for a coffee earlier during the Family Playgroup and stay on. It is really great fun.
