I wanted to share with you some photos of my time at a little school in Colombia, where I have been volunteering for the last month. The school is called 'Fundacion Mariposa Amarillas' this translates as the yellow butterfly. It is in a very poor barrio in Santa Marta, Colombia where many of the children do not go to school. The school is free for all children and is completely run by volunteers. It is in a concrete building with a tin roof and two small rooms that can get very very hot. There are very limited teaching resources, only pencils and paper and a whiteboard.
The kids are so happy to go to school each day and love learning. A few days before lent, there is a big celebration called carnaval where everyone parties. There are big parades and lots of dancing. We made some great carnaval masks with the kids as you can see in the photographs. I also celebrated carnaval and it was great fun.
I hope you have all settled in well to life I. Year Six and are being fabulous for your a teachers. I'll be seeing you soon
